MEDIA

What was your perception of media before this lesson? What is your view of media now?

Back then, Media for me is like a source wherein people like me get updated and entertained. Media is an outlet of information. Media contains every source of information that you may need It helps with making people’s daily lives easier and consumes less time.

Now that our teacher has discussed and explained what Media is, my view and understanding of the topic now became more deep. As defined by our teacher, Media comes from the word medium which is defined as ‘channel’, ‘means’ or ‘method’. Media is a tool for mass communication. It is not only in social medias but also in television and in papers. There are 3 Kinds of Media that I have learned: Print Media (Newspapers, Magazines, Broadcast Media (TV, Radio), and Internet.

At first, I thought Media only contains positive sides, but it turns out that there is a lot of negative sides of Media. In using Media, one must be careful in how you use a platform, what you decide to post, etc. One wrong click may either get you hated or trending in Medias.

What is the most relevant function of media to you? Why?

I think there are two most relevant functions that media is helping. One is the ability of media to give information with a click of a mouse or touch of a finger. This function benefits almost everyone in the world. If you want information, or simply want to be updated about what is happening around you, just turn on the television, internet or look for a newspaper and BAM! you have your Intel.

Can you recall a situation wherein media and information literacy could have been useful?

Media and Information Literacy has been useful in our travel in Singapore. Singapore is a foreign country to my family back then. We were so clueless that we almost got lost. Thankfully, my brother had downloaded an app that helps us travel through the city. From Sentosa, to Chinatown, To flower dome, etc. The app help us travel quickly, helps save time and uses less physical endurance… sometimes. Thank God for media!
